PoE 2 Beginner's Guide: How to Have a Good Start
Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2) is known for its complexity, with an overwhelming passive skill tree, intricate itemization, and a plethora of skills to master. If you're new to the game and seeking beginner tips, you've come to the right place! In this guide, Lolcohol shares some straightforward tips that can significantly enhance your gaming experience.
1. Read Everything
While it may seem trivial, reading is crucial! Whenever you come across a new skill gem, make sure to read its description or watch related video guides. For example, if you're unsure about a modifier, click on the small dot beneath it for an explanation. If you want to understand a passive ability, take the time to read its description. Many players overlook this step, but understanding the mechanics will significantly improve your skills as a player.
2. Identify Before Selling
Make sure to identify your items before selling them. Identifying your rare and magic items will allow you to earn significantly more gold. In Path of Exile 2, you'll encounter an NPC called The Hooded One early in Act 1. At this NPC, you can click a single button to identify all your items at once, after which you can sell them for gold. If you do not identify your items, you will receive much less gold.
3. Gamble for Upgrades
Another place to spend your gold is gambling. You can gamble with vendors to acquire unidentified items, which might turn out to be valuable upgrades, although it will cost you a lot of gold. If you're struggling with damage, consider gambling for a better weapon or pieces of Jewelry like boots for increased movement speed.
4. Check Vendors for Upgrades
Some vendors offer upgrades for items such as armor, weapons, wands, and scepters. Their stock changes as you level up, so it's a good idea to check them frequently. You can also revisit vendors from earlier acts for new items.
5. Don't Overlook Jewelry
In Path of Exile 2, you have four jewelry slots, including two ring slots, one amulet slot, and one belt slot. Jewelry can provide resistance and attributes. For an attack-based build like a warrior or a mercenary at a low-level stage, a normal-ratify iron ring can help you for a long time, significantly boosting your damage and resistance. So, keep an eye out for jewelry.
6. Use Your Currency Wisely
Feel free to use the currency you come across, like Orbs of Transmutation and Exalted Orbs. If you need to upgrade your gear, don't hesitate to spend your currency to make improvements. If you don't have an immediate need for them, it's advisable to hold onto these currency items until you're ready for a gear upgrade, especially for tougher content.
7. Utilize Runes
Runes are new to PoE 2 and can be socketed into items to enhance your damage or defenses. Be cautious, as they cannot be removed once placed. Use them wisely to bolster your character's capabilities.
8. Follow the Recommended Gems
When you find uncut skill and support gems, use them to access the engraving window, which provides gem recommendations based on your weapon class. These suggestions are generally safe and effective choices for your build.
9. Upgrade Your Skill Gems
Use uncut gems to level up your skill gems, especially for spells and attacks. Higher-level gems significantly improve your damage output, so take advantage of this mechanic to enhance your effectiveness in combat.
10. Upgrade Your Flasks
Your life flask is crucial for survival in Path of Exile 2. As you progress, ensure you're using the best flasks available. Regularly check vendors for upgrades to your flasks, as they play a significant role in your defensive strategy.
11. Utilize Charms
Charms are a new feature designed to counter various ailments. For instance, a charm can provide immunity to freezing for three seconds. Keep an eye out for belt upgrades, as they can unlock additional charm slots.
12. Disenchant and Salvage Items
Instead of selling rare and magic items, consider disenchanting them for currency shards. A full sack of currency shards will yield a corresponding orb of that type.
You can also salvage items to receive scraps, which can improve the quality of your gear. Salvaging items with sockets provides you with Artificer's Shards; ten shards can be combined to create an Artificer's Orb. This orb can be used to add a socket to a piece of gear. Therefore, if you have an excellent weapon and want to add a socket to it, use the Salvage Bench to create full orbs.
13. Complete Side Quests and Side Bosses
Engaging in side quests and defeating side bosses can yield significant rewards, including increases to Spirit and attributes. Make sure to explore these opportunities, especially if you're feeling underpowered.
14. Join a Community
One of the best ways to enhance your experience is to join a community or Discord server. Many players are eager to help newcomers. Don't hesitate to ask questions—there are plenty of friendly players willing to guide you.
15. Have Fun!
Lastly, remember that gaming is about enjoyment. Whether you prefer rushing to the endgame or immersing yourself in the lore, prioritize what makes you happy. Don't let others dictate your pace or style of play.
