Since Diablo 2 Resurrected was released, we have played it for more than three months. In the meantime, Blizzard Entertainment has continued to fix issues and develop exciting game details. So, there are always new features waiting for us to explore. And now, a new challenge – D2R Ladder Rank Play will come this year. It is a piece of exciting news for all competitive players.
What Is Ladder Rank Play
If a good player wants to find an area with some balance of powerful opponents, Ladder Rank Play is a good choice. It is like a mountain with a ladder, and players need to climb some steps to reach the top of the hill. But it is not easy because there is very little space at the top, and the higher players go, the more difficult it will get. Everyone that participates will be ranked. There are 99 levels for players to explore.
Like Diablo 2 classic, the D2R Ladder will include four different ladder modes below.
Standard Ladder: The casual version of Ladder play that encompasses playing with four acts.
Hardcore Ladder: The hardcore (only 1 life) version of Ladder play that encompasses playing with four acts.
Standard Expansion Ladder: The casual version of Ladder play that encompasses playing five acts, as it includes the “Lord of Destruction” expansion content.
Hardcore Expansion Ladder: The hardcore (only 1 life) version of Ladder play that encompasses playing five acts, as it includes the “Lord of Destruction” expansion content.
What Are the Differences between Ladder and Non-Ladder
Ladder:
1. Ladder has the duration time. (How long the duration of each D2R Ladder season is still being considered. It could be four months or more.)
2. At the end of a Ladder season, players can move their ladder characters into the Non-Ladder version, which can be used in the Non-Ladder game.
3. Ladder will reset after a given amount of time. When the next Ladder comes, players need to create a new character to play it.
Non-Ladder:
1. Non-Ladder characters can not be turned into Ladder characters.
2. Non-Ladder never resets. Characters created and D2R Items on the Non-Ladder will always stay there.
What Are the Advantages of D2R Ladder
1. For the first time, players will have the chance to unlock a lot of new rune words such as Pattern, Plague, which have never existed in the game before.
2. It’s a great way to keep the game fresh because the rules playing within Ladder are slightly different from Non-Ladder.
Why Are Players Still Playing Non-Ladder
1. If players want characters and items to be updated little by little and always be there, Non-Ladder is their best choice because Non-Ladder is always available.
2. Some Unique, Set, Magic D2R Items only exist in Non-Ladder. They are useful to gameplay.
3. There is no duration for Non-Ladder, so players need not consider the time. They can play the Non-Ladder version any time they want.
When Is Ladder Coming
Although there is no exact date, Blizzard will release patch 2.4 this year. And then, we will know the timeframe.

1. Responding to players’ requests, Blizzard will expand character build diversity. New balance changes will implement for each class. There are more possibilities in classes’ special skills.
2. Mercenaries’ skills will improve for players to have more choices.
3. There are some new Horadric Cube Recipes.
4. The Feature of Set Item changes will update underperforming Set Items.
5. More new rune words will come on stage.
