A Comprehensive Beginner Guide for the FFXI Eden Private Server

What Is FFXI Eden Server

The FFXI Eden Server is a private server that emulates the classic experience of Final Fantasy XI, specifically focusing on the era around the Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion. This server aims to recreate the game as it was in September 2008, providing a nostalgic experience for players who enjoyed the original game during that time.

Race Selection

Each race has different starting attributes. Choose a race that fits your playstyle.

  • Tarutaru: Lowest max hp, highest max mp, highest INT
  • Hume: Average everything, High CHR
  • Mithra: Average hp and mp, high DEX and AGI, low CHR
  • Elvaan: High hp, lowish mp, highest STR and mnd, low INT
  • Galka: Highest hp, lowest mp, high STR, and highest VIT

Starting City

Select a starting city based on your race or personal preference. Each city has unique quests and starting areas.

  • San d'Oria: San d'Oria typically has the highest player population per capita. It's the most conveniently located city for new players, as it's the shortest distance from the first area where people usually form parties.
  • Bastok: Bastok boasts the best single-city zone in the game. Everything you need for endgame preparation is in Bastok Mines, making it the optimal city for players focused on late-game performance.
  • Windurst: Windurst is the most sprawling of the three cities. Without a map, it's easy to get lost. Despite this, it offers a wonderful story and colorful NPCs. However, it is the farthest from the traditional starter area, Valkurm Dunes.

Job Selection

Start with one of the basic jobs: Warrior, Monk, White Mage, Black Mage, Red Mage, or Thief. Each job has its strengths and weaknesses, so choose one that matches your preferred playstyle.

Basic Jobs

1. Warrior: A versatile melee fighter with strong offensive and defensive capabilities.

2. Monk: Specializes in hand-to-hand combat and has high hit points.

3. White Mage: Focuses on healing and support magic.

4. Black Mage: Uses powerful offensive magic to deal damage.

5. Red Mage: A hybrid class that can cast both white and black magic and also fight with weapons.

6. Thief: Excels in evasion and critical hits, with abilities to steal items from enemies.

Red Mage or White Mage can be great first choices due to their access to healing magic, which saves Eden gold on healing items. Monk or Warrior are good melee choices since they're powerful early on and require minimal equipment to be effective.

Advanced Jobs include Paladin, Dark Knight, Beastmaster, Bard, Ranger, Samurai, Ninja, Dragoon, Summoner, Blue Mage, Corsair, and Puppetmaster. However, Dancer and Scholar are not available on the Eden server as they were introduced in the Wings of the Goddess expansion, which is not included in Eden's era.

Leveling

As a starter, leveling can be a big part of your game journey. Here are some tips and locations to help you level up efficiently:

Levels 1-10: Starting Out

    • Solo Play: In the early levels, you can easily solo in your starting area. Focus on defeating easy prey and decent challenge monsters. Complete quests and missions in your starting city for additional experience and rewards.
    • Key Areas: Each starting city has nearby areas suitable for early leveling. For example, West Ronfaure for San d'Oria, South Gustaberg for Bastok, and East Sarutabaruta for Windurst.

Levels 10-20: Forming Parties

    • Valkurm Dunes: This is a popular area for players to form parties and level up from 10 to 20. Make sure to bring food and other supplies to maximize your efficiency.
    • Party Dynamics: Learn to work with your party members, utilizing skill chains and magic bursts to defeat enemies more quickly.
    • Unlocking Subjobs: At level 18, complete the subjob quest in Selbina or Mhaura to unlock the ability to use a subjob, which will significantly enhance your character's abilities.

Levels 20-30: Expanding Horizons

Qufim Island: After Valkurm Dunes, Qufim Island is a common leveling spot. The monsters here provide good experience points, and it's a great place to practice party coordination.

Levels 30-50: Advanced Areas

    • Yuhtunga Jungle and Yhoator Jungle: These areas are suitable for leveling from 30 to 40. Be prepared for tougher monsters and more challenging battles.
    • Garlaige Citadel: From levels 40 to 50, Garlaige Citadel is a popular spot. Ensure your party is well-coordinated to handle the strong enemies here.

Levels 50-75: High-Level Challenges

    • Crawlers' Nest: This area is ideal for leveling from 50 to 60. The enemies here provide excellent experience points, but be cautious of their abilities.
    • The Boyahda Tree: For levels 60 to 75, The Boyahda Tree offers challenging enemies and great experience points. Make sure your party is well-prepared for the tough fights.

Early Game Tips

  • Make Use of Fields of Valor (FoV): Eden includes the Fields of Valor system, which gives you daily training regimes for bonus EXP and gil.
  • Join a Linkshell Early: FFXI is very group-focused, so joining a Linkshell can be a great way to get advice, find leveling parties, and get help with missions.
  • Hunt Down Beastmen for Drops and Gil: Low-level beastmen in the starter zones can drop gil and items that can be sold at vendors or the auction house. Items like crystals and beastman seals are valuable for crafting and quests later.
  • Focus on Key Missions for Rank Points: Progress through your nation's missions to earn Rank Points. Higher ranks unlock special gear and provide better standing within your nation.
  • Make Use of Conquest Points (CP): Spend CP on gear, which can give you a nice boost early on. To earn CP, participate in battles with monsters in areas controlled by your nation.
  • Save Gil for Essential Spells and Gear: Avoid spending too much on fancy gear early on. Focus instead on basic gear upgrades and spells for mage jobs. You can also make some gil by selling crystals and other items that are in demand on the auction house.
