OSRS: 1-99 Crafting Guide

Crafting is a skill available to both F2P and members in RuneScape 2007. This OSRS 1-99 Crafting guide shows you the fastest, the profitable, the alternative, the F2P, and the Ironman training methods. Crafting is also one of the most expensive skills, so if you need some cheap RS gold 07 for training, don't forget one of the most reliable OSRS gold sellers. The content for this article was inspired by Theoatrix OSRS's video.

The Crafting skill allows players to create jewellery, armour, and a range of other materials and objects used in other skills. It's a skill on which you can spend a lot of gold to get it done quickly, or you can do it at a slower pace, spending less or making some money.

As a F2P player, you can get your first taste of Crafting by completing the Sheep shearer quest. The skill involves gathering or buying the raw materials needed then using the activator, whether a thread, a needle, a chisel, or a spinning wheel, and then you'll get the final product with some XP.

Training your Crafting is important for a number of reasons. The highest Crafting requirement quest in the game is Monkey Madness II which needs level 70 Crafting. Also, to make Slayer rings which are super handy for level 99 Slayer require 75 Crafting. For Ironman, Crafting unlocks armor, weapons, and, most importantly - Jewellery.

It's worth noting that the most reliable Crafting boost in the game now is a Mushroom pie, which is newly added with Fossil Island. These boost your Crafting by four levels, and you can use this to boost things you can't make, but you can also boost your level for training if you are 1 or 2 levels off the next unlock.

Fast Method to 99

Starting with the fastest or most efficient way to train your Crafting level in OSRS. If you find any of these too expensive, there will be alternatives later on.

Levels 1-54: Cutting Gems

levels 1-20: Opals

· Gives 20K-30K XP/H

· Amount needed: 500 Opals

· Costs 15K OSRS gold

Cut opals are worth almost double a regular uncut opal. So even though you'll crush quite a few at a low level, you'll still make most of your money back. You'll need around 500 opals to get to level 20, but it depends on how many you crush, so stay around the GE in case you need to buy more. As with all gem cutting, you need a chisel. Getting through to level 20 will take about 10 minutes with a cost of 10K-15K rsgp after you sell the opals back.

Levels 20-27: Sapphires

· Gives 140K XP/H

· Amount needed: 106 Sapphires

· Costs 41K gold (8 gp/xp)

At level 20, you unlock Sapphires which are a lot more expensive than Opals but will get you through to level 27 very fast since they have a stable XP rate of over 140K XP per hour.

Levels 27-54: Emeralds

Cutting Emeralds is considerably cheaper than Sapphires, and I recommend doing these all the way through to level 54.

· Gives 170K XP/H

· Costs 650K gold (4.7 gp/xp)

Alternative method: If cutting Sapphires or Emeralds are too expensive, you can continue to cut Opals all the way through to level 54, and you'll break even, or if not, make a small profit as well. But the XP per hour is only 20K-40K.

Levels 54+: Battlestaves

At level 54, the best training method is the Battlestaff which can be created with a regular battlestaff and an elemental orb.

Levels 54-58: Water Battlestaves

· Gives 250K XP/H

· Amount needed: 736 Water Battlestaves

· Costs 5.8 gp/xp

Levels 58-63: Earth Battlestaves

· Amount needed: 972 Earth Battlestaves

· Costs 4.43 gp/xp

You can continue doing battlestaves after level 63, but with the price of Green dragon leather being really low, Green dragonhide bodies are in fact cheaper than Earth battlestaves.

Levels 63-66: Making Green D'hide Bodies

· Gives 300K+ XP/H

· Amount needed: 687 Green d'hide Bodies

· Costs 4.1 gp/xp

You need to make 687 Green d'hide Bodies, which means you'll need 2,061 Green dragon leather.

Levels 66-77: Air Battlestaves

· Gives 330K XP/H

· Costs 4 gp/xp

At level 66, you unlock a great method - Air battlestaves, which are faster and cheaper. You'll need 2,315 battlestaves to get to level 71, which unlocks the next fastest method. But the next method is much more expensive than doing battlestavs, so a great alternative to save money is to make Air battlestaves all the way to level 99 Crafting.

Levels 66-99: Air Battlestaves

With 91,187 battlestaves, it will cost you 50M gold from level 66 to level 99.

Levels 71-77: Blue D'hide bodies

· Gives 350k XP/H

· Costs 4M gp (6.2 gp/xp)

Levels 77-84: Red D'hide Bodies

· Costs 10M (8.7 gp/xp)

You'll need 18,921 Red dragon leather to get to level 84 Crafting

Levels 84-99: Black D'hide Bodies

· Gives 430K XP/H

· Amound needed: 39,000 Black d'hide bodies

· Costs 19M gold (8.8 gp/xp)

At level 84, you unlock one of the fastest Crafting methods in the game - Black d'hide bodies. You can get up to 430K XP/H, making getting to level 99 very fast. You need to make 39,000 Black d'hide bodies, and after selling them all, you'll lose 19M gold in the process.

In total, for the fastest method, you can go from level 66 to level 99 with Air Battlestaves costing 50M gold with XP rate up to 330K/H. You can also take the more expensive route with blue, red, and black d'hide bodies reaching up to 430K XP/H but costing 104M RuneScape money.

Alternative Methods

Levels 5-30: Gold Jewellery

· Level 5: Gold ring

· Level 6: Gold necklace

· Level 7: Gold bracelet

· Level 8: Gold amulet(u)

Some people do this for RuneScape gold, but I strongly recommend doing this at a low level for a decent XP per hour. You should only do this below level 30 Crafting because of how slow they are. But they are a great way to make a little money while leveling up pretty fast.

Levels 16+: Silver Items

· Level 16: Holy symbol

· Level 17: Unholy symbol

· Level 18: Silver sickle

· Level 23: Tiara

Silver jewellery is good too, but I will talk about this in the profit section of this guide. From level 16, you can start making silver items, and you'll get double the XP rate compared to gold jewellery, and with unstrung Holy symbols, you almost break even.

Levels 46+: Glassblowing

The next alternative method is Glassblowing, which has become less and less viable with the price of other methods decreasing. All of the glass items before the Unpowered orb are not worth doing because their cost is higher than even the fastest method shown before.

Levels 46-87: Unpowered Orb

Levels 87-99: Empty Light Orb

· Costs 27M OSRS gold

From level 87 to 99, you can make Empty light orbs which will cost another 27M gold, around 37M gold from level 1 to 99. The thing is, though, the XP rates are much lower. So it is not recommended to do this method on a regular account anymore.

Level 82: Amethyst

This is a method that you can profit from, but the OSRS gp per XP can vary into the positive and negatives.

· Level 83: Amethyst Bolt Tips

· Level 85: Amethyst Arrowtips

· Level 87: Amethyst Javelin Heads

Turning Amethyst into bolt tips, arrowtips, or javelin heads is a decent way to AFK your Crafting. They all give the same XP of 100K per hour, so you should aim for the ones with the best gp per XP.

Profitable Crafting

Below are some profitable methods you should only be used for money making.

Clockworks (Level 8)

The first method, which is incredibly profitable at a low level, is creating Clockworks at a Crafting table 2 in a player-owned house. You need one steel bar per clockwork, and since they play such a huge part in birdhouses, each one can be resold for a profit of about 800 gp.

Jewellery

The next profitable method is jewellery - both gold and silver jewellery. To make the most money at a low level, you should make opal and topaz bracelets. Both of these are used in Slayer, making them in a decently high demand on the GE.

Sapphire rings and Sapphire necklaces are also great at a low level. A lot of the dragonstone jewellery is a lot more profitable than any of the other jewellery, and you even get a much better XP rate at the same time.

Crushable Gems

The final profitable method is cutting crushable gems at a high level above 80. This is because you'll have a really low crush rate, and all of the cut versions are worth more than the uncut versions. The XP rate is not all that good, and I don't recommend doing Opals due to the smaller profit margin, but Jade and Red topaz provide good profit, which rises depending on your level.

Ironman Crafting Methods

Craft XP from Quests

Your best bet when starting is to make most of the huge range of quests that give XP rewards. The Elemental Workshop quests, specifically I and II, give 12.5K XP combined. From here, there is a range of ways to get your Crafting up.

Charter Ships

A particularly popular method is the Charter Ship method, where at a lower level, you can buy buckets of sand and seaweed from the Charter ships and turn them into Molten glass for XP. From there, you can use a glassblowing pipe to make more XP by making objects.

After Lunar diplomacy and level 77 Magic, you unlock Superglass make, which speeds up this whole process by a lot with XP rate of 85K-90K per hour.

Battlestaves are another decent method for Ironman since you can easily get them from Zaff, add an orb, then alch them and repeat them daily.

Gold, Gems & D'hide

Also from Slayer and particular monsters like Gargoyles, you can stock up on some Gold ore and bars to make jewellery. Also, you get a lot of gems through Slayer and things like Raids and mining gem rocks which will gradually help your Crafting level.

F2P Methods

As a low-level F2P player, there are three quests that you can complete to get Crafting XP.

You can do Sheep shearer, Goblin diplomacy, and Misthalin mystery for a total of 950 Crafting XP, boosting you from level 1 to level 8 Crafting. If you don’t want to do a quest, you should buy or create regular leather and make leather gloves to reach level 5.

From here, you can move on to gold jewellery for some profit. From level 5 to 20, you can make rings and necklaces and then unstrung amulets. You should train at the Edgeville furnace, which is newly available to F2P players, and it is very close to a bank.

From level 20, if you have loads of RS07 gold, you can cut gems for the fastest possible XP in F2P. Cutting Sapphire through the diamonds to level 99 will cost 115M RuneScape gold.

Alternatively, you can continue to make money through to level 99 by making Sapphire necklaces which profits about 30M gold.

Another way that is fast but costs a bit gp is making Diamond amulets from level 70 to 99 Crafting. It only costs about 5M-10M gp, giving an XP rate of up to 120K per hour.
