After the recent patch for EA FC 25, players are looking for the new META. In this guide, Team Gullit shows his updated META following the changes in Update 3.

Meta Formations

•    4-4-1-1

•    4-3-2-1

•    5-2-3

•    5-2-1-2

•    5-3-2

•    5-4-1

•    4-1-2-1-2 (Narrow)

•    4-3-1-2

•    4-4-2

•    4-4-1-1

•    4-5-1

The 4-4-1-1 and 4-3-2-1 formations are popular in FC 24. In FC 25, there are even more great formations available. On the pro level, many gamers utilize formations such as 5-2-3, 5-2-1-2, 5-3-2, and 5-4-1. If you have four backs, you can also use formations like 4-1-2-1-2 (Narrow), 4-3-1-2, 4-4-2, 4-4-1-1, and even 4-5-1.

Custom Tactics

Build-Up Style: Counter

The build-up style you choose depends on the formation you are using. For instance, if you are playing with a five-back formation, utilizing a Counter style can be beneficial as it allows you to have more players in position to support attacks quickly. This approach is particularly useful if you are trailing in a match and need to advance rapidly.

Build-Up Style: Short Passing

When using a formation like 4-3-1-2, it's beneficial to focus on Short Passing.

Build-Up Style: Balanced

When using a balanced formation like 4-4-2, you can opt for a Balanced build-up Style. For instance, at the start of a game in a 4-4-2 formation, if you prefer to build up your plays using basic patterns and want to keep your team from pushing too far up the field, choosing Balanced is a suitable option.

These three are the best build-up styles, and choosing one depends on your playing style and formation.

Defensive Tactics

In EA FC 25, there are four defensive approach options: Deep, High, Balanced, and Aggressive. The last three options are highly recommended.

Defensive Approach – Aggressive

The Aggressive approach is ideal when you want to apply constant pressure on your opponent. If you're trailing by a goal with just 10 minutes left in the game, using the Aggressive can help you maximize pressure. By opting for Aggressive, you can create a one-on-one confrontation across the pitch, giving you the opportunity to take some risks in pursuit of an equalizer or the winning goal.

Defensive Approach – High

The High defensive approach is employed when your team utilizes automatic offside traps. This method is particularly effective if you're not as proficient at manually executing offside traps compared to other gamers. Even if you are capable of managing offside traps yourself, it remains a solid choice, especially when playing in a five-back formation.

Defensive Approach – Balanced

Using the Balanced approach is helpful when executing offside traps, ensuring you don't get pushed back too much.

Player Roles

An important aspect of this year's Ultimate Team is Player Roles. It's essential to put a player in the position when they have a + or ++, or even better. This strategy will enable them to make more effective runs and be more active on the field. Conversely, if you have a player marked with "!" or in the wrong role, they may become passive. In contrast, players with a + or ++ will be much more active, actively seeking to make runs and get closer to the ball.

Goalkeeper

Thibaut Courtois (GK): Sweeper Keeper ++

Strikers

Son (ST): Advance Forward ++

Mbappé (ST): Advance Forward ++

Pedri (CM): Playmaker +

Valverde (CM): Playmaker ++

Defenders

Rüdiger (CB): Defender ++

Saliba (CB): Defender ++

Van Dijk (CB): Defender +

You can apply Defender + or Defender ++ to your defenders.

Wingbacks

Grimaldo (LB): Attacking Wingback +

Trippier (RB): Attacking Wingback +

New Meta – First Time L1 Triangle

Before Update 3, you could use the L1 speed boost to run past defenders, but that has since been patched and is no longer effective. However, TeamGullit has discovered a new way to score: the First Time L1 Triangle. There are two methods to execute the First Time L1 Triangle:

The First Way

Send a player on a run; then you pass around. Whenever the player you sent on the run approaches the defensive line, pass the ball to a teammate and use the First Time L1 + Triangle. Your player will be free on goal; all that's left to do is finish the shot.

*You can trigger a player using the L1 button or by making an L1 pass.

The Second Way

This variant is a bit more difficult. You pass the ball, and during the time the ball gets played, try to trigger your other striker and then play First Time L1 Triangle.

This mechanic focuses on timing. Although mastering it takes time, it is worth the effort.

We hope this guide helps you navigate the new META in EA FC 25. Stay tuned for more updates and content from Team Gullit in the future. If you found this information helpful, please consider liking and subscribing to their channel for additional valuable insights.
