Last Epoch is a time travel action RPG that features exciting dungeon crawling, engrossing character customization and endless replayability. In this article, we will focus on one of the endgame activities that you can explore after finishing the campaign: the Monolith of Fate. The Monolith of Fate is a system that allows you to rediscover all the possibilities of history and construct new timelines. It offers a variety of features, such as maps with different paths, rewards that can be chosen, bosses to fight, modifiers to adjust, and difficulty to increase. We will explain more about these features in the following sections.

What is the Monolith of Fate

The Monolith of Fate is the ultimate challenge in Last Epoch. It is the endgame system that awaits players after they finish the campaign. It offers a variety of features, such as maps with different paths, rewards that can be chosen, bosses to fight, modifiers to adjust, and difficulty to increase. We will explain more about these features in the following sections.

How To Access The Monolith of Fate

To access the Monolith, you need to reach the main hub called “The End of Time,” which is fairly early in the campaign. From there, you can take a portal on the east side to the first Monolith, called Fall of the Outcasts. The Monolith consists of different Timelines that have their quests, bosses, and rewards. You can unlock more Timelines by completing the previous ones and choosing between two new options.

Timelines

Timelines are islands in the Monolith of Fate, each with its network, quests, boss and rewards, as well as its level range (higher Timelines are more difficult). When you first enter the Monolith, you only have one Timeline available. To unlock new Timelines in Last Epoch, you need to complete the current one by finishing the Quest Echoes and killing the Timeline boss. Then you can pick one of two new Timelines to explore.

Eventually, all Timelines can be unlocked, although some Timelines require rerunning a previously completed Timeline. Timelines can be completed as many times as needed, and players usually want to complete Timelines multiple times to unlock other Timelines and get Timeline-specific rewards.

Echoes

Echoes are the maps that you run inside of Timelines. Each Echo has its own map, modifier, and reward for finishing it. You can choose Echoes from a web that is randomly generated for each Timeline. By completing Echoes, you can collect Stability and unlock Quest Echoes, which lead to Timeline bosses. Echoes are a way to explore different realities and influence the fate of Eterra.

Timeline Quests & Bosses

Every Monolith Timeline consists of three quests, culminating in a boss fight. Quests have different stability thresholds, with the first one being the easiest and the last one being the hardest. Quests have to be done sequentially and defeating the boss rewards a blessing and an option to access a new timeline.

Quests are fixed and unique to each Timeline. The same goes for the boss of each Timeline.

Timelines Boss Blessings & Rewards

Players can obtain Blessings and Boss Rewards by completing the quests and defeating the bosses.

Blessings are permanent buffs that can enhance the player's power or efficiency. Every boss offers unique Blessings that are exclusive to them. This means that to get a certain blessing, you have to keep fighting the same boss until you get it.

Boss Rewards are unique items that are exclusive to certain bosses and can have powerful effects. Every boss drops exclusive uniques that are specific to them. Some are easy to get while others are hard and many require a certain corruption level or the enhanced Timeline to drop. These uniques are not available elsewhere, so you have to keep killing the boss until you get the one you want.

How to Use Corruption

Corruption is a mechanic that affects the difficulty and rewards of the Monolith of Fate. Corruption increases the health and damage of enemies, but also the experience, item rarity, and stability gained by the player.

To increase your Corruption, you need to defeat the Shade of Orobyss, a boss that spawns at the edge of the Echo web. The Shade of Orobyss can be found on the "Echo of a World" tile, which is marked by a purple icon. Successfully defeating the boss will increase your timeline's Corruption stat slightly.

Corruption can also be boosted by killing the final boss of a timeline multiple times, which grants a buff called Gaze of Orobyss. This buff increases the Corruption of the next Echo you enter by a certain amount, depending on the level of the buff. The level of the buff increases every time you kill the same final boss, up to a maximum of 10.
